One of the most effective styles of therapy for many is, hypnotherapy is fast, drugs free, safe, and without unwelcome side effects. Essentially, the therapist will guide the client into a relaxed and extremely focussed state of mind (usually using his/her voice) then talk to the subconscious mind, seeking to make that which was  unachievable achievable, with as little effort as possible. There is nothing magical or mysterious about it; in fact what happens is generally totally predictable and reliable. There are many myths that surround this style of working, the vast majority, if not all, being totally unfounded. For instance, you cannot 'get stuck' or 'lose your mind'; you do not become unconscious or under the control of the hypnotherapist you are totally aware at all times (often more aware than usual); you do not 'blurt out all your secrets' or engage in any behaviour that you would normally do. Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness, which we all experience naturally at some point in our lives. Have you ever walked out of your home, jumped in the car and realized you are already driving when you suddenly think "Did I lock the front door?" Or have you ever been so engrossed whilst watching a film or reading a book that you simply don't hear someone talking to you? Both of these are examples of when our mind is so focussed on one thing that we block out anything else going on. This is similar to how hypnosis works.

The mind is an amazing part of you that stores everything that you have ever experienced or seen or heard. However, all of this is stored in the unconscious mind and the short-term memory or conscious mind is only able to store a relatively small amount of information at any one time. Therefore information is filed neatly away - just as information is stored in folders on a computer.

Hypnosis allows us to access the unconscious mind where all experiences and memories are stored. The hypnotherapist communicates directly with the unconscious mind, over-writing the stored patterns with new, more beneficial instructions.

Hypnotherapy has been used successfully alongside conventional therapy, throughout history. It is a safe and natural complementary therapy, enabling your own mind to bring about the required changes quickly and safely.

 What does it feel like?

Some people describe it as a state inbetween being asleep and awake; just as when you are drifting into a sleep; or just as when you are waking up from a lovely deep sleep. Others may feel as if they are totally awake, and can hear everything the hypnostherapist is saying, however, they may simply be too comfortable to bother to open their eyes. Contrary to popular belief, you are the one in control. The qualified Hypnotherapist is trained to guide you so that you may get the most out of the experience and find a solution.
